I can’t believe I haven’t done a ‘Ten Things’ list for Lessons In Love, yet! In the words of a Tinseltown William Wallace, ‘that is something we shall have to remedy’. Here goes.
- I remember thinking, as a child, that I wanted to work in my primary school library when I grew up, hence Eleanor’s occupation.
- First released as Say Yes back in my self-publishing days, this one was originally set in Werribee. I remember thinking it would be so bizarre to read a book set in old wezza, so that’s what I did.
- Eventually, that changed to Apollo Bay, a coastal town in Victoria, Australia with an amazing seafood cafe.
- As Say Yes, this was the second book I wrote to completion.
- PreOrder for this self-published nightmare took place while I was on a solo jaunt around the UK in 2015. I look back on those days and wonder where the energy came from. I think the universe must’ve been slipping something in my cofeve.
- I’d probably rewrite this book if I were given the chance, but I suspect a lot of authors feel the same about their early work.
- The bookshop that features in this book doesn’t exist, but there is a gorgeous weatherboard house at the end of the main street that I’ve always thought would make a grand bookstore, complete with coffee cart out front.
- I was really excited that I managed to slip Patrick from A Recipe for Disaster into this book. He’s probably one of my favourite characters. He’ll have his own book one day – watch this space.
- My old primary school library had a little garden thing in the middle of it, much like Eleanor’s library.
- How could I write a book about a school library and not include the Scholastic Book Fair? That stuff was like crack as a kid.
